Almas del FuegoThe goal of "Almas del Fuego" - which means 'Souls of Fire' in Spanish - is to bring the beautiful and passionate art of Flamenco dance in reach of people of all ages. It is a style of dancing that can be learned by anyone and it only depends on talent and how hard you want to work to reach advanced level. We try to make the dance classes to be joyful, passionate and exciting! Baile FlamencoThis class teaches (beginning) principles of flamenco movement. Warming up, postura (posture), braceo (armwork), floreo (handwork), vueltas (turns), taconeo (footwork) and compas (rhythm phrasing). Exercises to develop grace, agility, rhythm and coordination. You will become familiar with basic flamenco vocabulary while learning combinations and exercises incorporating rhythms in 'compas' (structure) of different counts. You will develop the clarity of the footwork, upper-body to lower-body coordination, as well as build the stamina and endurance. At the end of every class students will also learn to dance Sevillanas. Sevillanas is not flamenco, it is believed to be an old Castilian folk dance and it did not originate from Seville, as the name might suggest. You will see it danced frequently at the feria's (celebrations) in Spain. It is a very popular style dance. It's rhythm is 3/4 or better 6/8. Sevillanas choreography is very stable and very useful, since it is a fiesta dance. Técnica FlamencaPalmas: the technique of hand clapping forms to different compases like alegrias, soleares, siguiriyas, bulerias, tangos, and others. Exercises and small combinations accompanied by palmas instead of music. Castanets (castanuelas): the technique of how to play the castanets. Learn to play this magical Spanish instrument that brings some of the most beautiful dances to life. Exercises are given to develop articulation, coordination, speed and musicality. Correct position and placement for execution of castanet work will be taught. Theory sessionsOccasionally there will be theory sessions about the background, different styles and rhythms of Flamenco. Participation by choice, but advisable. We are also aiming to start a special class for children (boys and girls) age 5+, to introduce them to the joys of flamenco dance. This class would be a 40 minutes class. For more information please contact us by email or phone. Courses are in blocks of 6 weeks. |
